Today I came across a quote that I liked although I don’t have any comments on it yet. I just think it’s interesting!!

“To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible.”
– St. Thomas Aquinas

It seems to me that the opposite is actually true. Faith is blind belief without factual evidence. That’s why we don’t call it truth. Truth is a conclusion based on proven evidence. One without faith in God most likely has chosen to make their decisions based on factual evidence and truth, both of which are derived from reason. In this day and age, it surprises me that society is in general still blinded by the myths of ancient times.

This, of course, is my opinion if the quote refers to faith in God. If it refers to faith in something else, the specifics may change but the overall argument still holds true.

Yay! I got my first response!! Thanks Ryan. And yes, this particular quote does refer to faith in God-you were correct in assuming that. However, I don’t think that your comment really addressing what this quote is talking about. You addressed, at least from what I understood, FAITH in God. This quote doesn’t question whether or not God exists. I hope that we can continue talking about matters like this though!

I understand what you’re saying. I guess faith is sometimes a difficult term to define. If you type “define: faith” into Google, it gives you literally dozens of definitions.

Yeah, I totally agree with you! Faith is one of the hardest words to describe. I have had a lot of difficulty in my lifetime trying to explain my “faith” to other people. I think that’s a reason I find this quote so interesting. Irregardless of whether or not “God exists,” (lets just leave that out) if someone says they have faith, most of the time they can’t explain it. And then someone who says they don’t have faith cannot get it explained to them in a way that they will be satisfied. I think that’s what that quote is saying..and it’s interesting to think about.
